Well y'all!!!!!! babies are popping out everywhere up on the hill.....
I walked out to dump some things into the compost pile and noticed this.............
Merry Belle gave birth to her first calf !!!!!!!!!!!! We didn't know exactly when she would be calving, but thought it was getting closer . What a surprise. This happened around lunchtime today. She appears to be a nervous first time mom, so I'm giving her some space but keeping a close eye on her. Not sure if it's a heifer or a bull calf, so i will keep you posted.............This is so exciting ! ! ! two births back to back, first Rosie's lambs and now a calf. Our other two momma cows will be giving birth sometime in the next few months also. The farm is growing y'all......
Be back to post more later......

February 7, 2012
I was kindly awarded the Versatile Blogger award by my fellow homemaker and farmgirl at heart.............. Heidi over at My Simple Country Living. Thank you so much Heidi for your kind words and stopping by my blog to leave me such thoughtful comments. I enjoy stopping by Heidi's blog each week to see what she has come up with next. Her talents are endless, from her cooking, sewing and gardening blog hops which gets us all motivated and inspired to participate. If you haven't checked out her blog you can click here and it will take you directly to this talented woman's site. Thanks again Heidi, for being my virtual friend here in blogland.....
Here are the RULES for the Versatile Blogger Award-
Here are 7 random things about me:
1. I'm a Cajun gal from the deep south and my family means everything to me.
2. I have this desire to grow things and have my hands in the dirt, it brings me such peace.
3. I love anything CHOCOLATE.....................
4. I'm a pretty quiet and content person,
5. Went to College for the first time at 43 years old and got my RN degree. Being a homemaker for my family right now makes me the happiest.

Inspirational sewing
February 4, 2012
I came across a blogger friend this morning that dishes out such inspiration. I was catching up this morning on reading some wonderful blogs while having coffee, and I'm amazed how some women can get so many things done in weeks time. I'm talking about Heidi from My Simple Country Living. This woman is awesome, she shares with the world her talents in cooking, gardening, and sewing and many other things. You have to check out her blog, i don't think this woman sleeps any.
Well, after reading her blog this morning, i decided to get motivated and attempt to get a sewing project done once a month. I use to love to sew, and sorta put it on the back burner. My oldest daughter is wanting to learn how to sew, and now we have a baby girl to sew cute things for, so thank you Heidi for the motivation.
Two weeks ago, i was digging through some old patterns i have saved just because i like old vintage things and didn't want to throw them out because they were out of style. I had a stash of fabrics that i dug through as well. I did get something made for Jessie, my grandbaby.
I used one of the patterns and had this cute fabric for some time. She's gonna be a lil cowgirl like her momma, so i wanted to use this western boot and hat fabric.
Look at the price on some of these old patterns, $.50 cents and $1.00, Wow!!!!!!!!!!! wish we can still find some patterns for that price.....

I think i will get some small red ribbon to embelish the eyelet ruffle around the neck, maybe a small ribbon bow, what do you think??
I can't wait to try the Simplicity 7708 pattern, now that's vintage. My mom had that pattern and made these for my sister and I years and years ago...........ha ha ha
Thank you Heidi for your hop to inspire me to get back into sewing.
If you like sewing follow me over to Heidi's My Simple Country Living for her UFO roll call sewing hop.

Dreaming.................
February 3, 2012
A new year, and new goals.........seems everyone is putting goal list or to-do list out there. I guess we need to get our list re-vamped and out there as well. We have always wanted a nice barn, a place for the animals to come in, if need be. A few stalls to keep sick animals away from the others. A working chute and pens to work the cows. A chicken run along one side the barn and maybe a greenhouse on the other end. Oh yea!! almost forgot and enclosed feed room would be nice also. I have it all pictured in my head, all nice and orderly, the cutest lil barn on this small farmette. Well!!!!!!!!!!! we can all have dreams right??? Sometimes dreams come true.
The other day, hubby had this itch to get something happening with this dream barn of ours.... To make this short, and to fill you in as to what we have in existence already, i will show you a picture. Im going to warn you...... this shed / barn was on the place when we bought it, it has withstood hurricane Katrina, and sorta became the storage for many things. So needless to say, it's not pretty.......
I didn't get any good pictures before he started tearing down the back walls. This picture was last spring when we started the new garden site, which was the previous inground pool area that we filled in. So like i mentioned, he had this itch, that drove him to tearing down walls and sticking pipe in the ground..........
I guess it all starts with a dream.......He knew what he wanted the back portion to function as, and we had the pipe from a previous torn down project. So to utilize what we already had and to actually get things started on this long awaited dream, he started with the working pens on the back side of the existing barn.
Wow, how just a torn down wall and a few changes can make something look so different. Im so lucky to have this hard working man..........Who tries to make all our dreams come true.
This barn will be a work in progress, won't happen overnight, or over a weeks time, maybe won't be complete in a years time. But, im tickle pink he busted down a few walls and started this dream barn of ours. I will take pictures and journal our progress throughout this project.
It's been warm here the past few weeks, i really think the south really forgot to put in for a winter........a few scenes from my yard........shammrocks are up and blooming along with my verbena....

My Hearts.................
February 2, 2011
January has come and gone, and right after Christmas i take everything down from the mantle except the greenery, and maybe a few pine cones. I started playing around the other day, and came up with this cute little HEART that i made from a scrap of ivory colored fabric and a piece of ribbon and jute.
I softened the greenery with some ivory tulle and left my soft white lights from Christmas in place as well. The old window was a gift from my son-in-law that i just propped up there. I have seen around blogland where someone sprayed the back side of the glass of a old window with this mirrored spray paint. I never knew they made that stuff, may have to check into it more. It suppose to resemble an old mirror like image sorta muted from what i read. That might look better than looking at the brick wall behind it.
I wanted to get a picture in the evening with the lights on but my camera didn't do it any justice. Or shall i say...........I couldn't do it any justice.........I need more practice with the use of lighting techniques.
I tied a bunch of dried hydrangea to the top of the old window, and a peace dove hung off to the side. I have been so busy with my youngest playing soccer and babysitting the grandbaby i had to keep it simple and use what i have around the house.
This is also a picture of my HEART..............
My precious grandbaby Jessie, she gets so excited when the animals come to the fence. She is learning to make all the different barn yard animal sounds..........it's so funny to hear her baaaaaah like a sheep.
February is our Birthday month, She will be turning One Year Old, and I will be turning the big 50!!!! It is so sweet being a grandmother......She holds such a special place in my heart.
Love........................Sheryl
